I've read all of the matrix books and this book is the  only one that does an outstanding job of interpreting the second  and especially the 3rd  in a credible and thoughtful manner. Those books had disappointed me for that reason, but your book fills in a very important gap in the body of work and analysis on the Matrix trilogy. I will definitely recommend this book to my fellow Matrix fans.

Hi Pradheep!

I really loved your book. What I liked best about Journey to the Source is that of all the Matrix-related books I've read (and I've read almost all of them!), it's the only one that does an outstanding job of interpreting the second installment (Reloaded), and especially the 3rd installment (Revolutions) in a credible and thoughtful manner. Most other books, even those written after the 3rd movie came out, barely touch upon the 2nd and 3rd installments, and tend to focus on part one mostly. Those books had disappointed me for that reason, since I left Reloaded and Revolutions thinking that I hadn't "gotten" what they were saying (or thinking that they weren't trying to say much) and was hoping that these books would have some answers for me. So your book fills in a very important gap in the body of work and analysis on the Matrix trilogy.

I was one of those fans who loved the first movie, and didn't like the next two as much. I originally felt that there was not enough development of the philosophical underpinnings of the first movie in Reloaded and Revolutions, but now I've changed my mind in that I've realized that the Wachowskis had simply gone in a new direction. I wasn't very familiar with the system of thought that your book discusses, so now that I've read it, I definitely want to see the 3 movies again, armed with the perspective you've given me.

I really liked the organization of the book, especially your use of headings referring to different scenes in the movie. That made the book fun and easy to follow. You took a lot of complicated philosophical ideas and made them very accessible to the novice, which is not an easy task. It's very impressive.

I will definitely recommend this book to my fellow Matrix fans.

  Note from Highlights editor:

I've tried to give a good idea about how this book treats The Matrix Trilogy and introduces basic spiritual teachings. If you would like to find out more about Journey to the Source: Decoding Matrix Trilogy, and to order it, please visit http://www.matrixjourney.com/.

If you or someone you know is a Matrix fan, this book will clearly explain its alignment with spiritual texts, mainly the Upanishads, the Vedas and the Puranas. By way of demonstrating and perhaps celebrating the universality of the teaching, the author quotes diverse sources, from the Torah to Meister Eckhart to Ray Kurzweil, from Francis Lucille to Cervantes to Kahlil Gibran. This is a useful, informative, and clearly written contribution to Matrix literature. The book is structured in such a way that allows the reader to re-live the movies and to probe certain scenes in order to understand how they bear on spiritual teachings and on one's spiritual inquiry. The scene explications can even be understood by a reader who has never seen the Matrix films.

Dr. Pradheep Chhalliyil has written a surprisingly interesting book  about how the film series "The Matrix" connects with Philosophy and spiritual tradition.  In the spirit of Joseph Campbell's TV series  dealing with ancient wisdom and modern film, this book will make you think  about just where our new quantum technology is taking us.  The answer just may be into a greater spiritual awareness. -Fred Alan Wolf, Ph.D.  (Physicst and Author)   Dreaming universe

The book is quite something and very different to most books based on films. I think that your writing style is very good, easy to follow, clear and simple without falling into the obvious. All in all I think that your main idea of transmitting a spiritual / mythological meaning to your readers by leading them through modern, popular film language, is amazingly successful. And I wish more people / writers had something deeper to say than just the words they write...and I think young people will have an easier access to these ideas about consciousness because of your book, then they otherwise would if it had not been available.----          Randall Meyers, Film Director, The Cosmology Quest

'Journey to the Source: Decoding Matrix Trilogy’ by Pradheep Chhalliyil reveals the deep layers of the Matrix Trilogy in light of philosophy. This book is a guide to take a journey of knowing oneself. The fun part is by taking the journey by watching the Matrix movies. This is a treat for students of philosophy trying to understand oriental mysticism & philosophy with aid of movies in a classroom atmosphere. I have used the Matrix in my discussions, and am delighted to find textual material from this book to prescribe for my students. -Sthaneshwar Timalsina, Professor, Washington University, St. Louis

Several books have been written on the phenomenon of the Matrix -- some on the cultural impact, some from entertainment aspect, and some on the philosophies -- but Journey To The Source: Decoding Matrix Trilogy is just a little different. The author poses and answers some very interesting questions.  such as: Why does the Morpheus crew use a land line phone to get in and out of the Matrix, but use a cell phone inside the Matrix? Why did Persephone ask for a kiss, and how did Trinity's kiss bring Neo's life back? Why the Architect tell Neo that he is an anomaly of an unbalanced equation? Why does the Oracle bake cookies and offer candy to Neo? All of these things have deeper, hidden meanings and it's fascinating to find out what they are. This  is a nicely presented book and is fully illustrated with original drawings..----Staci Layne Wilson, Fantastica Daily, July 2004.(www.fantasticadaily.com)

The Matrix Trilogy is both profoundly and pervasively philosophical in the full sense of revealing and grasping the mystery of human existence. Neo’s quest for Self-Realization is a classic “Hero’s Adventure” presented in an extended allegory that interweaves philosophical themes and mythical elements from many traditions. Pradheep Chhalliyil’s authentic and extensive knowledge of Indian spiritual wisdom and mythology makes Journey to the Source an indispensable guide to tracing these themes and references through the movies.  -Ron Leonard, Ph.D., Department of Philosophy, University of Nevada, Las Vegas

I just got the book a couple of weeks back and read it from cover to cover.I then watched the trilogy again and it became so much clearer and more enjoyable.
The author has done a good job of researching and providing explanations scene by scene. This way the reader can go to any scene and read the deeper philosophical meaning.
The illustrations also aid in understanding the .
This book is well worth the price. I highly recommend it.

Dr. Pradheep Chhalliyil has taken us beneath the surface of the Matrix Trilogy and toward a greater understanding of the symbolism and underlying messages within. Not only relevant to this wonderful film trilogy, but also incredibly appropriate for our own lives, Chhalliyil's book serves as a series of guideposts that offer greater insight into Neo's journey, as well as our own. I feel fortunate for having become aware of this book and am very happy to read it.                                                                       Frank Ruiz, Maryland, 20th July 2004.

I am an ardent fan and I keep reading many materials on Matrix movies. I found in amazon this book and I read it cover to cover without a page and after that I watched the movies innumerable times. This is a fabulous book giving all the different interpretations. I recommend this book for other matrix fans. it is a real gift.                  A Reader (Amazon.com)

Read you wonderful book that did strike the resonance of the higher reality plane of yoga within a movie. It was well written with beautiful quotes, illustrations and simple communication! wow! If all could read your book and understand life as it truly is meant to be, then the ancient sages mission on our earthly plane is complete!

Congrats Pradheep!
Love,light and the inspiring divine,
