Whether children a consumer product? 11 years 1 month ago #364

I always ponder with the below questions about my kid.

1. What do I want my kid to be?
2. Why do I need to send my kid to school?
3. What should I expect the school to do?
etc.,

I thought when I discuss with my friends and family members, I might get clarity, but everyone has so many ideas and needs. But everything had something common in them, that each parents / society decides.

1. What the kid need to eat.
2. When the kid need to sleep.
3. What the kid need to study.
4. When the kid need to play.
5. When the kid need to speak.
6. What the kid need to study.
7. What the kid need to work as.
etc.,
The list was never ending.

So who is this kid? A consumer product for the parents and society?

Please don't say the child as consumer product which is a good used for sale for personal use or family or other business purposes. A child is a gift of God for us. Children are our Future.

We incorporate good habits(samskaras) in the form of traditions to the child like eating, drinking, sleeping, speaking, studying, respecting elders etc so as to bring out an ideal individual who would help in bringing peace to the whole world. These good habits/ samskars develop good thoughts in the kid which would help him make a harmonius world where every bring is in complete happiness.

@Neelima

I never said a child as consumer product. I'm asking a question whether the kids are treated as consumer products in our current society or not?

Let us be very practical about what is happening in the real world. Does the kid does what parents/society has instructed or does the kids does what they have learnt?

The more pitiful stage is now education field. The amount of pressure and stress a kid is exposed to under the name of education is tremendous.

I'm assuming all parents wants their kid to be good and they teach good things. If this is the case, why parents are unhappy with the kid's performance? and why does the kid is unable to fulfill parents expectations always.

An example of an ignorant act. I have seen many parents saying they don't give water to newborns. I asked them why? The reason they say is either doctor has said that or the mother's milk is also like water, so since they drink milk it is enough for the child.

My question is can't we see that child's body is similar to our body and child body can also feel thirsty. Do we drink milk when we feel thirsty or do we drink water?

Can water and milk be same?

So from the beginning of life they give the child what parents want or being told by society. This becomes a habit eventually.

Please don't think I'm trying to make a point here. I wanted to honestly learn what is happening outside and also in myself. Because in my personal life I also do things out of ignorance to my kid just because I was instructed like that, assuming it is good for my kid.

Do we drink milk when we feel thirsty or do we drink water?

I stumbled upon this site when I wanted to find a good play school for my child for enxt year.

I dont agree with you. We drink juice instead of water. Water has no nutrition, but juice has. For babies, water has no nutritive value. Havent you read the nutritive value in the bottle water?. I have a 11 month baby, we never gave him water. He is fine.

Water is to quench our thirst and clean our internal system of our body.So we must drink water whenever we feel or the child feels thirsty. We must always try to listen to our body.

We should not keep expecting things from our kids and instead change ourselves first and be always in the awareness that whether we are able to fulfill our families needs and expectations. We have to be the role model for our kids, then kids learn every aspect automatically and there is no need to teach them anything separately.

But babies do not know anything. We should mould them otherwise they end up wrong.
